Benjamin Bowling

Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice, King's College London

Professor Ben Bowling is Deputy Executive Dean of The Dickson Poon School of Law. He has been at King’s since 1999 and was previously Assistant Professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (City University of New York), Senior Research Officer in the Home Office and lecturer at the University of Cambridge Institute of Criminology. He has been a visiting professor at the University of the West Indies and at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.

Ben studies crime, criminal justice, policing and community safety. He is currently working on two books: Policing the Caribbean (OUP) and Global Policing (Sage). These examine the extension of police power beyond the boundaries of the nation state and the practical, political, ethical and legal problems that arise. His most recent work on fairness, effectiveness and police accountability in the local, national and transnational spheres has been published in the Modern Law Review, Criminal Law Review, Criminology and Criminal Justice and Theoretical Criminology.
