Bernadette McSherry

Emeritus Professor, The University of Melbourne

Bernadette McSherry is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Melbourne, having served as the Foundation Director of the Melbourne Social Equity Institute from 2013 to mid-2021. She was previously an Australian Research Council Federation Fellow and the Director of the Centre for the Advancement of Law and Mental Health at Monash University. She has honours degrees in Arts and Law and a Masters of Law from the University of Melbourne, a PhD from York University, Canada and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from Monash University. She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. Professor McSherry is a Commissioner with the Victorian Law Reform Commission and Immediate Past-President of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law. She served as a Commissioner on the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System from February 2019 to February 2021..
