Lecturer in Sociology, Tufts University

Dr. Packer received her PhD in Sociology from the École Des Hautes Études En Sciences Sociales in Paris, France and was a visiting graduate student researcher at the University of California Berkeley from 2013-2017. She has conducted extensive ethnographic research on gender and civil society in India and Senegal. Her current research explores the articulation of gender, Islam and sexuality in urban Senegal through the lens of women’s soccer. Her teaching interests focus on ethnographic methods, gender and sexuality studies in Muslim cultures, sport and embodiment, Islam and West Africa, postcolonial feminist theory, political sociology and stigma/deviance.
