Dr. O’Leary’s areas of interest include both cultural anthropology and archeology. She is an expert in the field of space archaeology and heritage. Her most recent publication (2014 Springer Press) with P.J. Capelotti is "Archaeology of the Human Movement into Space." “The Handbook of Space Engineering, Archaeology and Heritage,” (CRC Taylor and Francis 2009) is a seminal volume that she coedited with Ann Darrin of Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, Dr. O'Leary has chaired and been the invited speaker at many international symposia, most recently (2014) the International Symposium for Personal and Commercial Spaceflight.. She has also done research on Athapaskan cultures in Canada and the U.S. Her most recent work is a book and CD with First Nations elder, Marge Jackson. With over 25 years of experience in cultural resource management in New Mexico, she was the vice chair of the New Mexico Cultural Properties Review Committee for 8 years, a policy making board appointed by the governor. She created the Cultural Resource Management Program in the Anthropology Department at New Mexico State University.
