Professor Bill Randolph joined the Faculty of Built Environment at the University of New South Wales in August 2004 as Professor and Director of the City Futures Research Centre where he undertakes research specialising in housing policy, urban development and metropolitan planning policy issues. He stepped down as Director in December 2020.

Bill has over 40 years experience as a researcher on housing and urban policy issues in the academic, government, non-government and private sectors. He was Director of the Urban Frontiers Program at the University of Western Sydney for six years and Head of Research at the National Housing Federation in London (the national peak body for non-profit affordable housing landlords) for six years.
