Research Fellow - Emergency Management, RMIT University

Dr Blythe McLennan is a Research Fellow in Emergency Management with RMIT University’s Centre for Risk and Community Safety in Melbourne.

She is currently working on a project for the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre (BNHCRC) that examines ways the emergency management sector in Australia and New Zealand can promote community resilience through support of non-traditional emergency volunteering.

Dr McLennan recently completed a three-year project for the previous Bushfire CRC that critically examined the concept of ‘shared responsibility’ in Australian disaster policy, and implications for the way that governments and citizens work together to manage disaster risk into the future.
