Before joining academia in 2000, Bruno was employed by the Australian Consulate in Milan, Italy. On returning to Australia he joined the US Consulate in Melbourne until he joined Swinburne University. He is President of the European Studies Association of Australia (CESAA) and also School Council President of the Victorian School of Languages.

His research interests are in: international business, migration, diaspora voting and parliaments, the Italian political economy and Australian business in the world.
