Carol L. Goldsmith

Assistant Director and Senior Research Associate in the Institute for Science, Technology and Public Policy, Texas A&M University

Carol Goldsmith holds a Master of Public Affairs degree with a focus on environmental policy from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University in Bloomington. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental management from Pomona College.

As Assistant Director and Senior Research Associate in the Institute for Science, Technology and Public Policy (ISTPP), she manages research projects and associated IRB protocols; helps design research studies and surveys, prepares grant proposals; and contributes to research publications, reports, and presentations. She communicates and promotes the Institute’s activities, including updating ISTPP’s web content and creating public relations materials. In addition, Ms. Goldsmith serves as office manager and provides fiscal management support to the Director.

Ms. Goldsmith has worked in both the private and public sectors. During her 11 years as an environmental compliance specialist, she collaborated across functions and with individuals of various professional and technical backgrounds to ensure site operations conformed to environmental permits, regulations, and company policy. During her 8 years as a resource teacher at a private high school, Ms. Goldsmith established academic support plans for students with learning challenges, tutored students in all core subjects, and taught several remedial classes. She served as resource program head for her last 5 years there. Ms. Goldsmith also taught sociology classes as an adjunct instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Just prior to joining ISTPP, Ms. Goldsmith provided employment and education support services for people receiving public assistance while working at a nonprofit organization.
