My research focuses on the design, development, deployment and evaluation of technology-based learning systems. I’m especially interested in how technology can be used to engage students who have traditionally struggled with math and science (female students in math and engineering, English Language Learners, students with mild, moderate and severe visual impairments, students with Specific Language Impairment). I directed the AnimalWatch project, an online tutoring program for algebra readiness that received positive results in an IES Efficacy Study in California middle schools directed by WestEd. Recent work has focused on integrating neuroscience into education, using EEG to predict math problem solving outcomes with the goal of providing interventions in real time.
