Celia Kitzinger is a Chartered Psychologist and a Professor in the Sociology Department at the University of York. She is also co-director, with Professor Jenny Kitzinger, of the Coma and Disorders of Consciousness Research Centre which specializes in examining social and ethical aspects of the vegetative and minimally conscious state (see www.cdoc.org.uk).

The academic work has been translated into a resource for families, health care practitioners, lawyers, researchers, journalists and policy makers (see www.healthtalk.org/peoples-experiences/nerves-brain) which includes 250 film clips of family members talking about their experiences of having a relative in a vegetative and minimally conscious states, alongside interviews from experts and clear medical and legal information.
