Charles Lees

I am currently Executive Dean and Professor of Policy and Global Affairs in the School of Policy and Global Affairs, City, University of London, UK (2022 -). I have previously been Dean (People and Resources) and Professor of Government in the College of Business, Government and Law at Flinders University, Australia (2017-2022), and Head of Department and Professor of Politics in the Department of Politics, Languages, and International Studies at the University of Bath, UK (2011-2017).

I have research expertise in comparative politics and policy, including party systems, coalition government, environmental politics and policy, and have contributed to debates on the methodology of single-country studies. I have provided research and advice for the Centre for American Progress, Australian Labor Party, the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, the UK House of Lords, and the Scottish Executive, amongst others. I am a Visiting Professorial Fellow at the University of Sussex, and Associate Fellow in the Institute for German and European Studies at the University of Birmingham. I have also held visiting fellowships at the University of California San Diego, the Australian National University, the University of Sydney, the University of Bath, and Cardiff University.
