Cheri-Leigh Young

Postdoctoral research fellow, University of Cape Town

Dr Cheri Young is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the DST/NRF Mineral Law in Africa Chair (Department of Private Law, University of Cape Town). She obtained her PhD degree from the University of Cape Town in 2014. She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

Her interests include natural resources law, including water, minerals and land, property theory and law. She is particularly interested in the study of legal frameworks that facilitate and promote the just and equitable sharing of natural resources, and how various shareholders contribute to achieving a balance in respect of competing interests.

Other positions/recognitions include: AW Mellon Fellow, UCT; Reviewer: African Mining Legislation Atlas (2015); UCT Future Water Institute (from 2016); Co-editor, Annual Law Survey Namibia; Editorial Advisory Board, Studies in Housing Law.
