Professor Dissanayake is an established researcher with a strong national and international reputation in research on Autism Spectrum Disorders. She is founder and Director of La Trobe University's Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre and also leads the School's Child Development Unit.

Dr Dissanayake joined the School of Psychological Science in January 1996. Since then, she has contributed to the teaching of developmental psychology at all year levels.
