CSIRO Great Barrier Reef Coordinator & Senior Principal Research Scientist, CSIRO

Dr Roth has a PhD in soil physics from the University of Göttingen, Germany and over 35 years of research experience in tropical land and water management. Dr Roth first joined CSIRO in 1996. Based in Townsville he led the Tropical Land and Water Management Program and established major research projects studying the impact of land use on sediment and nutrient export to the Great Barrier Reef.

From 2004 he spent close to 5 years with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) in Canberra, where he was Research Program Manager and ACIAR’s Regional Coordinator for South Asia.

In 2008 he returned to CSIRO to assume thought leadership in research for development. Since 2015 he has re-engaged in research related to the Great Barrier Reef and is now research coordinator for Great Barrier Reef related research in CSIRO.

He has produced over 220 publications and research reports. Recent focus of his research has been integration science, research for development and principles underpinning impact science.
