My research in South Africa considers how people define and imagine achieving a “good life,” especially when unemployed or working in low-wage jobs. I am interested in how various narratives of a good life compete and intertwine in individual lives and across societies. In future projects, I plan to continue investigating racial narratives as they affect employment in the United States, especially among formerly incarcerated individuals. In general, I love thinking about the deeper moral and cultural questions behind economics and wellbeing.
