Christopher Wilkins

Professor of Education and Director of Teacher Education, University of Leicester

Chris is currently Director of Teacher Education and a member of the School of Education Senior Management Team. He was elected as a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2014, and teaches on a range of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as supervising doctoral students.

Prior to joining the University in 2000, he worked in both London and Leicester as a Primary school teacher. Between 2002 and 2007, Chris was Head of the Primary PGCE programme, and has served as Director of Teacher Education since September 2008. He is responsible for the strategic management of all programmes related to teacher education including Primary PGCE, Secondary PGCE, Foundation Degree in Educational Studies and BA (Hons) in Educational Studies), as well as the validation and quality assurance of School-Centred Initial Teacher Training programmes (Grand Union Training Partnership and Leicester Teaching School Alliance).

Chris has represented the University in a number of national and international bodies, such as Steering Group of Comenius Network on Global Education, Racial Equality and Education Strategy Group, Diversity and Anti-Racism Project Steering Group, University’s Council for the Education of Teachers Primary Committee and Management Forum, Steering Group for TDA Recruitment and Retention of Minorities Initiative and UK education representative for the European Union Civil Society Dialogue Project. He currently represents the University in a European Union TEMPUS project.
