Senior Lecturer in History of Science, University of Liverpool

Claire Jones is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Liverpool. Research interests include the intersections of science, society and culture in Britain in the 19th and early 20th centuries, specifically with reference to understandings of gender, both femininity and masculinity, and ideas of the ‘gendered intellect’.

Her current research focuses on two areas: gender and engagement with the Royal Society and other learned societies, and women and science in literature. Her book Femininity, Mathematics and Science, 1880-1914 was published by Palgrave in 2010.
