Claire studied Human Sciences at St Catherine's College, Oxford University and then studied for a Masters in Health Promotion Sciences at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1992/3. She completed her PhD in epidemiology in 1998, having worked on the European Collaborative Study (ECS) on HIV-infected pregnant women and their children since 1994. Claire held a Wellcome Trust Research Career Development Fellowship (2007-2012). She has carried out consultancies for UNICEF, UNAIDS and the UK National Screening Committee, and jointly co-ordinates the European Pregnancy and Paediatric HIV Cohort Collaboration (EPPICC), within the EU-funded EuroCoord network on enhancing clinical and epidemiological HIV research in Europe through cohort collaboration.
