I'm interested in how technology and people interact to make something new. Humans have been around for more than 200,000 years. For most of that time we could only communicate via speech and pictures. 8,000 years ago we invented writing and we could communicate with those who were not near us - or even dead. In the last 30 years we have reached a world where we can find out anything known, or communicate with anyone instantly. Its not surprising that its taking a bit of getting used to.
I work with technology that includes ways of discovering and using knowledge via computation, mostly in the health sector. Understanding what people need and want and how we can make useful and usable technology that enriches and improves health and well-being is what I am most interested in. We are soon going to be 10 billion people on the planet - we need all the help we can get.
