David's research interests focus primarily around sustainability and value chains. He is heavily involved in the Sustainable Cut-Flowers research project alongside Dr. Jill Timms. He has previously undertaken research examining Fairtrade and ethical trade in the context of fruit, wine and flowers, especially within South Africa.

He is also currently working on a project which seeks to explore the business case for sustainability. This project has led to the development of an online training course which looks at sustainable practices in the horticultural sector.
