Professor, Teaching and Learning, University of Montana

As a Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Montana-Missoula, I investigate how we change teaching practices to increase student learning. Through the National Science Foundation Noyce Learning Assistants Become Teachers (LABT) grant, we have funded 30 future teachers with mathematics and science degrees as they pursue teaching in high needs school districts and make changes to their own practice. Having taught secondary mathematics and science for 18 years prior to teaching in higher education, I have experienced professional development from both sides.
