Professor of Education and Equity, University of Sydney

Deb works in the Sydney School of Education and Social Work, at the University of Sydney. She has previously held posts at Griffith University and the University of Technology, Sydney. She is a co-author of 'Literacy, Leading and Learning: Beyond Pedagogies of Poverty' (Routledge, 2017) and 'Re-Imagining Schooling For Education: Socially Just Alternatives' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017). Her research concerns inequities in education and how these are constituted by schooling discourses and teaching practices. Her teaching areas include sociology of education, research methods, and pedagogy. Debra works closely with school and system-based educators in the public system, as well as community-based workers and organisations. She is a former secondary school science teacher.
