Douglas L. Leslie, Ph.D., has been the Director of the Center for Applied Studies in Health Economics (CASHE) since its inception in 2011.
Dr. Leslie is a Professor of Public Health Sciences and Psychiatry. He is also the Chief of the Health Services and Behavioral Research Division in the Department of Public Health Sciences. He has extensive research expertise in health services research, health economics and pharmacoeconomics. Before joining the Penn State faculty in 2009, Dr. Leslie held faculty positions at the Medical University of South Carolina and the Yale School of Medicine, as well as a research associate position at the VA Medical Center in West Haven, CT. He is also currently an adjunct professor at RAND.
Dr. Leslie serves on several editorial boards, including the Journal of Mental Health Policy & Economics and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. In 2005, he was awarded the Excellence in Mental Health Policy and Economics Research Award, recognizing exceptional research value in the development of the interdisciplinary field of mental health policy and economics. Dr. Leslie’s research sponsors include the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute of Drug Abuse, Alkermes, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Pfizer, and the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Dr. Leslie received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University.
