Dr Getrude Dadirai Gwenzi

Early Career Researcher in the Sociology of Child Welfare in Africa, Lingnan University

Dr Getrude Dadirai Gwenzi is a Research Associate in the Department of Social Work at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She is also the Director of GCYCC, a registered Child Welfare Consultancy in Zimbabwe which conducts research on children living in alternative care and care leavers. As a passionate sociologist and child welfare practitioner, Getrude has done extensive research on the social construction of family in the context of biological family separation (in substitute care/ children's homes) in Zimbabwe and is currently working on research that focuses on OVC youths in Zimbabwe. Dr Gwenzi also co-directs a network of postgraduate researchers from the Global South called GSRPG and assists prospective applicants to access scholarship information.
