E Jamieson is a linguist particularly interested in dialect syntax, and what microvariation between closely related languages and dialects can tell us about the underlying structure of language. E currently works as a research assistant on the AHRC-funded Scots Syntax Atlas project at the University of Glasgow, a large-scale research project mapping variation in syntax across varieties of Scots.
Before this, E completed their PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2018, using the structure of questions in two Scots varieties to understand how aspects of pragmatic knowledge are incorporated into grammar.
