Emily Smith-Greenaway

My research centers on understanding how social institutions play a role in the creation and maintenance of health disparities. Most of my work has focused on two social institutions wherein youth spend the bulk of their time: family and school. The tremendous variation in both kinship patterns and educational experiences across the globe has taken my work into international terrain, focused predominately on contemporary African and Asian contexts which have undergone extraordinary family and educational change in the last fifty years.
