Fernando Paolo

Dr. Fernando S. Paolo received his Ph.D. in Geophysics from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, as a NASA Earth and Space Science Fellow. Prior to coming to the U.S., he received his M.S. in Geophysics and B.S. in Oceanography from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, where he participated in several scientific cruises in the South Atlantic Ocean including an expedition to Antarctica. He is currently a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory / California Institute of Technology, where he uses very-precise satellite measurements (altimetry and imagery) to detect changes in the Earth's cryosphere (frozen Earth). He is interested in the large-scale oceanic and atmospheric processes causing ice-sheet mass loss, and the implications for future sea-level change. He is the lead developer of the JPL Cryosphere Altimetry Processing Toolkit, and a contributor to NASA's Ice Cloud and Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) mission.
