Director: Interprofessional Education Unit, University of the Western Cape

I am the Director of the Interprofessional Education Unit (IPEU) in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences (FCHS) at the University of the Western Cape. My main role is to provide leadership and to strengthen interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) at UWC through 1) providing teaching and learning opportunities; 2) capacity development;3) initiating and conducting collaborative research.. I am a founding member of the African Interprofessional Network (AfrIPEN) which is a consensus-based partnership between various institutions and individuals with the vision to establish IPECP as an integral part in health professions education. I also serve on the Interprofessional.Global Policy Working Group, that aims to inform IPECP policy development in global and local contexts. I am a Southern African Faimer Institute (SAFRI) faculty member and the focus of this organisation is to build capacity in area of health professions education in the Southern African Region. My expertise and research areas include: interprofessional education and collaborative practice, public and school health and community engagement. I supervise a number of Masters and PhD students.
