Flora Derounian works across the disciplines of Sociology and Modern Languages. Her research looks at women's work across a number of sectors, including agriculture, textiles, and religious work.

Her research explores oral histories and cultural representations to ask how women's work is remembered. Derounian is producing a series of documentaries on her research.

She lectures in French and the University of Sussex. Previously she taught in Sociology and English language at the University of Gloucestershire, and Italian language and history at the University of Bristol. She has previously worked at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, and the University Paris-Est Créteil.
