Francesco Colona

I conducted my PhD at the University of Amsterdam in the department of Human Geography, Planning and International Development and part of the Centre for Urban Studies at the same university. I have been part of a research team studying “Public-Private Security Assemblages and the Reconfiguration of Citizenship” in five different cities: Kingston (Jamaica), Recife (Brazil), Miami (USA), Jerusalem (Israel) and Nairobi (Kenya). In my own research I am focusing on the last city, where I ethnographically explored how citizenship and access to (or targeting from) security is reconfigured in hybrid forms of security governance. In my analysis I foregound how various security technologies and objects are mobilized by the private security industry, the police and the residents.
