I am a Lecturer in the Humanitarian and Conflict Response institute. My research is interdisciplinary and is interested in the everyday lives, aspirations, needs and concerns of people living with disaster risk. I take a postcolonial approach to disaster studies and am interested in decolonising discourses and policies in disaster risk reduction. I also work on the media representations of human vulnerability in popular culture, and am particularly interested in the representational practises of alternative technologies.
Research experience in the UK, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. Professional experience with BBC Worldwide, DFID, World Bank and Ford Foundation projects
