Gemma Weston

I studied with the intention of being an artist and i thought I was one for a number of years, exhibiting locally and nationally, individually and collaboratively before I began curating exhibitions with my collaborators. We eventually opened an art space, OK Gallery, in central Perth in 2011, which ran for 2 years. During this time I was also a sessional academic, tutoring in 'visual culture' (art history and theory) at Curtin University, publishing texts on art in Art & Australia, Un Magazine, Artlink and The West Australian Newspaper, among others. In 2013 I translated this experience into a permanent position at UWA, as Curator of Australia's only dedicated public collection of art by Australian women, housed at Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery.
