Professor; Director, ARC Centre of Excellence for Particle Physics at the Terascale, The University of Melbourne

After growing up on the beach in Western Australia and studying at UWA as an undergraduate, he moved to the USA for his graduate studies, receiving his PhD from the University of Hawaii. He also worked in Chicago and Berkeley, followed by four years in Europe working for the University of Oxford and the European laboratory, CERN in Geneva, before returning to a new lectureship at the University of Melbourne. He has had a career in High Energy Particle physics, in which he is internationally known. He leads the Australian High Energy Physics program with major experiments at CERN, and at the Japanese National Laboratory, KEK in Tsukuba.
