Lecturer in the Department of Architecture, Monash University

Dr Gill Matthewson is a Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Monash University. Throughout her career she has returned again and again to issues of women and architecture. This precipitated her MA research which explored gender as it manifests in architecture by investigating the professional and intellectual presence of three women involved the conception, realisation and interpretation of the Barcelona Pavilion. Her PhD thesis tackled the question of women disappearing from architecture. The latest manifestation of her concern is as a member of the XYX Space+Gender+Communication research laboratory at Monash. She is committed to understanding the ways that gender contributes to the shaping of architects and architecture. She is also a regular contributor to Parlour, the activist website promoting equity and diversity in the architecture profession.
