Gráinne Maedhbh Nic Lochlainn

PhD Candidate – Geography, Social Movements and the Internet, Trinity College Dublin

My research uses GIS and network analysis to map protest groups who use social media. I am currently researching anti-water charges and housing/homelessness activism in post-financial crisis Ireland, but have a broader interest in how digital technologies impact political engagement in twenty-first century societies.

Prior to beginning my PhD, I attained an M.Sc. in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing at Maynooth University. A significant chunk of my thesis portfolio focused on mapping the relationships between vacancy rates and demographic change, the housing boom, and Airbnb rentals in Dublin City.
