Professor of Cellphysiology, Ruhr University Bochum

Hanns Hatt is a Professor of Cellphysiology in the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology. His research interests include:

• Modulation of ligand-gated ion channels
• Biophysical and pharmacological characterization of serotonin receptors (5-HT3)
• Characterization of functional properties of HCNG-channels in vertebrates and invertebrates
• Cloning and functional expression of transmitter-activated ion channels (GABA, glycine, glutamate, histamin, ACh)
• Functional expression of vertebrate olfactory receptors
• Patch-clamp recording of sensory neurons (in vertebrates and invertebrates)
• Investigation of ion channel assembly using transgenic mouse models
• Co-culture of sensory cells with central neurons
• Calcium-imaging in neuronal networks
• Expression cloning (Xenopus oocytes) of transmitter-activated ion channels
• Computer models (self organizing networks) for the investigation of information processing in the olfactory system
• Transgenic animals and their impact on synaptic information processing
