I'm Harry Ward, a physicist working at the University of Glasgow. For nearly 40 years my research has focussed on developing ultra-sensitive measurements techniques to allow the detection and study of gravitational waves from astronomical sources.

Complementing the large-scale facilities now operating on Earth my team's efforts over the last decade have been to advance the technology for a future spaceborne agravitational wave detector provisionally called eLISA. As part of that program we have developed, contructed and tested the sensistive optical metrology system for the ESA technology-demonstrator mission, LISA Pathfinder, that launches on 2nd December 2015.
