Hazel has been involved in academic research in later life and elder care over 14 years. Predominately working with qualitative and small scale methodologies, with experience of large national funded evaluations of health and social welfare services, and mixed methods approaches.

Majority of studies have involved contact with vulnerable and frail groups, and researching sensitive areas, including elder abuse, older homelessness, dementia care, survivors of flood disaster, and older people living in residential care.

Professional background in registered mental health nursing (1983), social work (1994), and complementary health practice (2008). Registered with the General Social Care Council and Society of Homeopaths.
