Heather O'Connell

Postdoctoral Fellow, Rice University

Dr. O’Connell is a postdoctoral fellow at the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University and a recent graduate from the Sociology program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her research centers on understanding racial inequality and poverty in the United States, but also includes innovations related to spatial data analysis and the incorporation of demographic processes like migration with the study of inequality. She has most recently published in Sociology of Race and Ethnicity on the topic of the legacy of slavery, but also in Social Forces in 2012. Her other research on spatial processes has appeared in Spatial Demography and is soon to be published in Social Science & Medicine.
