Lecturer in Health, Safety and Environment, Curtin University

Helen lectures in the area of Health, Safety and Environment. Her areas of interest are Health Impact Assessment, sustainability and health in urban environments, climate change adaptation and Occupational Health and Safety.

Helen is currently researching adaptation to health impacts of climate change in Perth. The research is trialling the use of systems thinking approaches within a Health Impact Assessment framework. The research has led to a focus on exposure to heat in urban environments. Helen has become particuarly interested in the ongoing loss of tree canopy in Perth and how that may lead to increases in local temperature that exacerbate global climate change. The report on a multi-sectoral workshop held on this issue is available from the WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Impact Assessment website http://ehia.curtin.edu.au/projects/climatechange.cfm
