Professor in Information Systems, University of Wollongong

Helen is a Professor of Information Systems at the Australian Health Services Research Institute at the University of Wollongong. Using Complex and Activity Theories, Helen conducts research into wicked problems such as social use of IT by the elderly for improved wellbeing; Green IT for sustainable development; and social determinants of Indigenous health. Helen has received University Awards for Research Student Supervision (2012), Interdisciplinary Research Excellence (2015) and Community Engagement (2017). Her latest venture is a start-up social business, Living Connected, which assists older people to use computers and remain digitally included in modern society. It is set up as a social enterprise within the Accelerate business incubator at the Wollongong Innovation Campus,
Helen publishes extensively in Information Systems and related areas of Human Computer Interaction, Group Decision Support Systems, Knowledge Management, Green IS and Sensible Organisation using frameworks of Complex Activity. Helen manages an activity-based usability laboratory at the university and has led local, national and international special interest groups on Green IS. Helen helped draft the Australian Knowledge Management Standard.
