Ian has been involved with native grass seeds for in excess of 25 years. In that time he has bred grasses, researched into them, sown, managed and harvested crops and established Native Seeds P/L the largest seller of Australian native grass seeds. He continues to undertake research, often through projects developed in conjunction with Australian Universities, and leads the technical development of the native grass seed industry in Australia.
He is regular asked to speak at conferences, both locally and internationally, that deal with native grasses, their breeding, their growth and their applications and has written extensively on this topic. Some of his work has contributed to his Masters and PhD awards from Melbourne University.
Ian has consulted to numerous Government bodies at all levels and to many corporate entities about the potential for uses of native grasses and their adaptational advantages. He writes regularly for magazines and is a reviewer of technical papers for several international journals. He serves on two Australian Government committees and is Deputy Chairman of New Rural Industries Australia.
