Professor of Old Age Psychiatry, Newcastle University

Founding member of Newcastle University's Institute for Ageing and Health (IAH), a large inter-disciplinary research group spanning molecular mechanisms of cell ageing to clinical intervention studies. Main research strategies centre upon longitudinal clinical assessment of patients with neurodegenerative disorders with follow up to death and request for brain autopsy. Studies focused upon Lewy body disease have contributed to the development of globally used Consensus criteria for the clinical and pathological diagnosis and management of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and related disorders. Longstanding member of UK MRC CFAS www.cfas.ac.uk/ and has led several international multicentre trials of diagnostic and treatment agents. In 2015 received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Alzheimer's Association.
