Associate Professor in Primary Care Dentistry, University of Plymouth

Ian Mills is a general dental practitioner with a strong interest in primary care research. He is a partner in an 8-surgery mixed practice in North Devon where his clinical focus is on implant dentistry and oral surgery. Ian also works part-time at Peninsula Dental School where he is an Associate Professor in Primary Care Dentistry. Ian has held many national roles within dentistry and is the immediate Past Dean of the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK).

In 2018, Ian was awarded a PhD from Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry for his research on Person-Centred Care (PCC) in General Dental Practice. He has published widely in the academic literature on a number of topics including quality outcomes in dentistry, person-centred care and environmental sustainability in dentistry. His current research focus is on mental health and well-being in the dental team; recruitment and retention in dentistry within rural areas; and delivering person-centred care in dentistry.
