I'm a PhD student researching Genetics at the University of Liverpool, UK. My project makes use of Genetics, Molecular biology and Microbiology-based techniques. It involves a mix of bioinformatics (computer-based data analysis) and cell culturing/DNA extraction in a lab.

Prior to my PhD, I gained a 1st class Honours degree in Microbiology and spent 9 months working as a Lab Technician in a Microbiology lab, both at the University of Liverpool.

I also write a blog called 'The Science Gremlin' in which I describe scientific research articles I have read, or seminars I have attended, in layman terms. My aim, much liked that of The Conversation, is to make research more easily available to the public.

In addition to this, I have written some of the features for the University of Liverpool's online 'Becoming an Expert' series, in which PhD students' projects are explained for the benefit of the public.
