Research Associate, Nelson Mandela University

I am a marine ecologist with over 20 years of research and work experience in marine, coastal and island ecosystems. I hold an MSc and PhD from the University of Pretoria and completed a 3-year postdoc on sustainable natural resource management and stewardship with Nelson Mandela University and South African National Parks. I have very diverse interests including applied ecology, conservation biology, and the sustainability of social-ecological systems, particularly the science-policy-practice nexus and mechanisms that enable effective knowledge transfer. Pet interests include (but are not limited to) sustainable small-scale fisheries, shifting baselines, stewardship, invasive species, and risks and opportunities in seafood value chains. I currently work for the Marine Stewardship Council in London, UK. I am also a Research Associate of the Sustainability Research Unit at the Nelson Mandela University, South Africa.
