James Douglas Langston

PhD Candidate and Demonstrator in the Development Practice Programme, James Cook University

I am interested in the interconnected issues that shape peoples’ livelihoods and environments. Our research group asserts that immersion and engagement with the actors and agents most involved with the pressing issues of development is indispensable for an effective practitioner. I have worked with landscape practitioners across Southeast Asia and assisted with the Development Practice Programme aiming to better equip Master's students to return to nurture their landscapes for better development outcomes. Our research is aimed at understanding the leverage points in landscapes for optimal interventions that lead to long-term sustainable development outcomes.
