Dr Haile's previous research exploits include the causes of Ice Age megafauna extinctions, and examining how the earliest West Australians lived by using DNA Analysis techniques.

He was awarded an Australian Research Council (ARC) fellowship to undertake work on eggshell genetics in November 2011.
