James is a Reader in Epidemiology at UCL. He is founder and head of the PsyLife research group (www.psylife.eu) in the Division of Psychiatry, UCL. His group's work investigates the role of environmental factors on the risk of developing serious mental health disorders such as schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions. He is particularly interested in the role of the social environment, and how living in large cities, or being from a minority background can increase one's risk. James has a background in geography and epidemiology, and completed a PhD in Psychiatric Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge in 2007. He is currently funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Royal Society.
