Jan is a Senior Consultant at Ricardo-AEA, an international energy and climate change consultancy where he leads projects on energy efficiency policy.

Alongside his consultancy work, Jan is a Visiting Research Associate at the Lower Carbon Futures Group of Oxford University's world-renowned Environmental Change Institute and at Freie Universität Berlin, Environmental Policy Research Centre. He is an Associate Lecturer on the MSc in Nature, Society and Environmental Policy at the School of Geography, Oxford University where he teaches on public policy and research methods. Jan also conducted research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Jan is interested in the politics of energy efficiency. In his research, he focuses on policy instruments such as energy efficiency obligations, on-bill financing mechanisms such as the Green Deal in the UK, and soft loans for energy efficiency retrofits such as the KfW programmes in Germany. Jan also has an interest in fuel poverty policy and the equity implications of energy policy in general. In the past, he worked on environmental and energy economics, mainly in the area of external costs of energy. Jan is a reviewer for journals such as Energy Policy, Energy Efficiency, Economics of Energy & Environmental Policy, and Sustainability as well as a book reviewer for Springer.
